The Gallery of Cinematic Art - Solar exhibited some works included in the DocLisboa 2005 Festivals programme, which has ended on the 23rd of October. The exhibition combined five films of Ross McElwee and the most recent work of Abbas Kiarostami. During the DocLisboa the director Ross McElwee was in retrospective. His work, still quite unknown in Portugal, has been causing a great impact on an international level, especially after his Shermans March, which as been shown and awarded in some of the most important international film festivals. Abbas Kiarostami is one of the most important nowadays directors. During the 3rd Short Film Festival of Vila do Conde, in 1995, a special programme about Kiarostami was held, when he was still much unknown to the portuguese public. Recently, Kiarostami has been developing video-installations and works on photography. Although these works keep particular characteristics of his cinema, they show some proximity to plastic arts. Along with the exhibition of Ross McElwee and Abbas Kiarostamis works, and as an extension of DocLisboas programme, will be screened in the Auditorium of Vila do Conde two films of the American director (Shermans March and Bright Leaves), the documentary A Decent Factory of Thomas Balms, and Alimentation Gnral of Chantal Briet, which was one awarded film at the festival.
