The exhibition 2012 A Kubrick Odyssey is composed of videos and installations created by European artists strongly influenced by the cinematographic and philosophical universe of Stanley Kubrick, one of the most remarkable authors of the second half of the twentieth century and probably one of the filmmakers most often cited in contemporary art.
The works selected for this exhibition, mostly produced in the 21st century, result, by one hand, from a fascination with some of the most popular Kubricks films such as "2001: A Space Odyssey" or "The Shining" as well as the revealed sympathy of the austere humanism of the director. On the other hand, the exhibition is composed by videos resulting from a random appropriation of existing images of Kubricks films, opened to new meanings.
2012 A Kubrick Odyssey is shown in Vila do Conde, from 29 June to 11 November 2012. In Solar - Cinematic Art Gallery are settled the works by Graham Gussin, Joo Tabarra, Johan Thurfjell, Miguel Soares, Nicolas Provost, Pedro Tudela, Sheena Macrae; in Centro de Memria, works by Alexandre Estrela and Joo Onofre.
This exhibition integrates also the programme of the 20th Curtas Vila do Conde - International Film Festival, during which will be screened a film programme , including cult movies by Stanley Kubrick and two documentaries depicting his films and is influence in contemporary popular culture.
