"Instead of"“Em vez de” intersects reflections on production, presence, effort, and seeing the exhibition from other people’s point of view. The repetitive structure of the work, which overlaps different types of subjects in a loop format, is composed from an allusion to the Myth of Sisyphus, according to the description of Albert Camus in his book "The Myth of Sisyphus”.
This work is built from tensions present in an accumulative process in which pictures are physically activated, thus causing bizarre allegories by creating shapeless manifestations of figures contaminated by references and layers of props. This allows the body to become embedded in its own contradictions. The difficulty in separating what is a product from what is a process arose out of the necessity of thinking about the way plasticity allows us to inhabit the spaces between the images.
Thoughts on potential relationships established between image, archive, memory and performance highlight right from the start several impossibilities and traps. Maybe the best option will be to engender ways of untidying memories to emphasise the evidence of the elapsed time, to disorganise references, setting up the body as a walking monument which bears the compositions detonated inside its own structure.
