“Western Chronicles” is a non-narrative film, edited in the form of a slideshow with living pictures in which Provost travels through 4 States in the West of the United States making compositions of landscapes and situations reminiscent of cinematic beauty.
Nicolas Provost graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Gent, Belgium in 1994 but spent the last two years of his studies as an exchangestudent experimenting with video at the academy in Bergen, Norway. Provost spends the next 8 years in Oslo working as an illustrator, graphic designer and art director. In 1999 he starts making films again that quickly find their way to international film and visual art platforms. His work is a reflection on the grammar of cinema and the relation between visual art and the cinematic experience. His films Plot Point”, “Suspension”, “Gravity”, “Papillon d’amour”, “Oh Dear” e “Exoticore” have been screened and exhibited worldwide and have been awarded at prestigious festivals as among others The Sundance Film Festival, The San Francisco International Filmfestival, Cinevegas, The International Film Festival Rotterdam, The Viennale, The Locarno Film Festival. His films have been exhibited and awarded in n Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival several editions, and have been presented in Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery space at his solo exhibition “Suspension” (2008-2009), and group exhibition “2012 Odisseia Kubrick” (2012).
